Katherine Cortes of Tara Lets Anywhere is one of the travel bloggers you can rely on in terms of traveling not only in the Philippines but also in different parts of Asia. I’ve met her a couple of times during familiarization trips, and other blogging gigs. In this post, you’ll get to know more about Kath. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Are you a full time blogger? If not, what do you do besides blogging?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes. No. Yes! Actually, I’m a software engineer by profession but I’m currently in a sabbatical for over a year now. So you could say that now I’m a full-time blogger, but I intend to go back to work sometime in the future. Travel blogging is the dream job, but it’s not really stable or sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. What do you write about?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I write about travel and then later on I also included food reviews and food guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. What inspired you to become a blogger? When did you start blogging?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I’d been blogging since high school, but I started Tara Lets Anywhere with my boyfriend at the end of 2015. It started as our online travel diary, although in the past 1-2 years he got busier with other stuff so now I mostly handle it alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. What motivates you to blog?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Blogging is really just one of those things that I like doing, regardless of whether there’s something in it for me or not. But yes, money isn’t bad at all and while it’s not my prime motivator for blogging, it motivates me to blog more seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. What makes you unique compared to other bloggers?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I don’t know. Haha. I think everyone likes to think themselves as unique, but today most blogs are quite monotonous and there’s a reason for that — it’s because information sells better than stories. It’s different when it comes to social media because personality shines better there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think if there’s something that sets me apart, it’s that I have particular preferences when it comes to traveling — I like quiet places, IG-worthy but not too crowded or commercialized; beaches and snorkeling spots and nature stays. I don’t really like city tours, I skip visiting churches and museums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. What’s the most viewed article in your website?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Oh, boring. I think it’s my article on the best resorts in Bataan.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. What’s the best thing about being a blogger?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Fam trips and comped stays, definitely. I like fam trips (familiarization trips) because you get to travel and experience the best of everything for free, especially if it’s organized by the tourism office. They plan the itinerary based on the best activities to do in a location, best restaurants to dine in, and so forth. And have I mentioned that it’s free?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. What are your challenges in blogging?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Traffic. Ranking in Google used to be easier but now it’s definitely more challenging and if there’s something that Google has proved in the recent months, it’s not that content is king, it’s that Google itself is a business and it will eat you alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, social media. I’m introvert and I have a lot of subconscious blocks about connecting with people, so yeah one of my main challenges is growing my FB and IG pages. :p If you’re reading this and you like what you see, follow me in the links below!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Korea, definitely. Then I’ll ask you to take me to the best samgyupsal restaurants and traditional places where we can wear hanbok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
